Shopping is bad. Drinking is bad.  Music can be bad. Yet, I love them all!  Here are a couple items that have had my attention for the last 24 hours…it HAS been a bit of an addiction…I’ll admit…

American Apparel Circle Scarf

American Apparel Circle Scarf

So after my last post, I am sure you are surprised to see another scarf.  You are probably thinking, “Kelli, I thought you deaded that scarf trend?”  Well, the scarf trend is not the problem, it’s that DAMN houndstooth scarf I can’t stand…but I digress.  This little gem above is American Apparel’s Circle Scarf.  Sure, to the naked eye, it looks like a regular old scarf…but oh oh oh, it is so much more…

**swoons**  This is so overwhelming!  That one piece of $28 fabric from American Apparel can turn into all those looks?  Why yes it does!  WTH! www.americanapparel.net

Earlier today, I was helping my friend pull together some ideas for a Holiday party she is attending with her “Gentleman Caller.”  Well in the midst of coming up with ideas…I found this gem.  I was breathless when I saw it…

BCBG Max Azria Poly Lavender Taffeta Ruffled Detailed Dress

BCBG Max Azria Poly Lavender Taffeta Ruffled Detailed Dress

**swoons again**  It is BEAUTIFUL!  I’m a huge Gossip Girl fan, and I immediately thought it was something that Serena Van der Woodsen would wear.  I think its a beautiful dress, to be worn for any occasion.  Got a wedding?  Wear that dress.  Going to the club?  Wear that dress.  Going bike-riding?  Wear that dress.  www.bluefly.com

Honestly, if ANYONE would like to get me the scarf or dress for Xmas please feel free!

So here are the Top Ten things I can’t stand right now…

10.  People who say “texas” instead of “texts.” Last time I checked there was no ‘A’ in “texts.”  THE END.

9.  The Blazer. Has this trend died yet?  If you are not going to work, church or some other function where you must be dressed business casual, I do not want to see you in blazer.  Other places that do no include business casual: Hmmm, the CLUB!  Let’s start a new trend fellas.

8.  Those SHINY ASS STRETCH PANTS. What is that shit, Lame’?  Those pants give me the willies and the chills.  Not to mention that I’m allergic to that material, and it blinds the shit out me.  And don’t let you be ill-built…**rolls eyes**

The idea of the ankle boot, or the bootie as it’s now called, was a bit of a lost cause until a few seasons ago.  At first they were a little hard to find, but now they are back with A VENGEANCE.  Suede, leather, cloth– you name it, they probably make a bootie in the color and material you like.  Honestly, I’ve never been a fan of the bootie on myself, but they always tend to look cute on cankleless women the right person, WITH the right outfit (emphasis on right outfit).  While hunting for some fab booties (that sounds weird) I came across some HOT THAAAAANGS!

*sings Talib Kweli in my head*

ENJOY!

Shouts out to my folks from Houston…(aka M.Dot)! For those who are familiar with FWMJ’s Rappers I Know series (www.rappersiknow.com), you may already be hip to this one. I’m not sure what Texas colloquialism to use, “Don’t Mess with Texas,” “Everything’s Bigger in Texas,” or the infamous, “I ain’t from Houston, but I Rap-A-Lot.” :-)

Peep the vid, it’s worth it!

Ganked from www.rappersiknow.com:

“There’s a movement going on at the bottom of the map. If you haven’t paid attention, then you’ve been missing a modern renaissance taking place in Houston, Texas. If you take a look back over the last few years, most of us have been involved in or connected to some of the most inspiring, influential creations to come across your iPods and computer screens.

Remember these names: Kay, The ARE, K-OTIX, Chris “Daddy” Dave, D. Rose, The Foundation, J “8 Months” Lewis, Neon Collars, H.I.S.D., The Niyat, DJ Cozmos, and Flow Factory. If you run through your favorite downloads from the last few years, they’re on at least half of them. And while we can dwell on our individual accomplishments, there’s something to be said about the strength that we have in numbers.

We want you to look at this video with the understanding that it’s the first shot of a united front that hopes to change the landscape of the music that you’re listening to. We’ve challenged ourselves to create some of the most enjoyable music that we’ve listened to in a very long time ? and we hope that you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.

Embrace it”

Are we ‘Connected’ or should we just ‘Leave It All Behind?’ November 7, 2008

Alright, so I will admit, I’m biased.  I have a HUGE slight obession with Phonte from the critically acclaimed group Little Brother.  I can’t help it, I love him.  He is one of the best rappers in the game today.  And on top of that he has a comedic side (See “The Story of U.S.” album–maybe I’ll post it one day).  AND on top of ALL that, this man SAINGS!

**Falls out and starts speaking in tongues**

Let me compose myself…

Aight, so back in 2002 Phonte and producer Nicolay, “Connected” on famed website Okayplayer.  They began to exchange music back and forth.  Next thing you know, they had an album…and a name: The Foreign Exchange:

Consisting of singer/songwriter Phonte and producer Nicolay, The Foreign Exchange came together via the online hip-hop community Okayplayer.com in 2002. After trading files through Instant Messenger for over a year, Nicolay (living in his native Holland at the time) and Phonte (a Raleigh, NC resident) completed their debut album before they ever met each other in person. The album, “Connected,” was released in 2004 to positive reviews, and was praised by legendary DJ’s such as Jazzy Jeff, King Britt, and DJ Spinna for its inventive mix of hip-hop, R&B, and electronica.

“Leave It All Behind” finds The Foreign Exchange much closer in geography (Nicolay has since become a resident of Wilmington, NC), but located much further from their hip-hop origins. The duo’s second full-length is a dark, multilayered affair that features Phonte showcasing his abilities as an exceptional lead and harmony vocalist, while Nicolay extends his musical palette to include sprinklings of jazz, downtempo, and house. The lush, Darien Brockington-assisted “Take Off the Blues” picks up where Connected’s sleeper hit “Come Around” left off, while the complex polyrhythms and dreamy synthesizers of “Sweeter Than You” are described by Phonte as “swing jazz for the next century.” Marc Mac (of legendary UK production team 4hero), also contributes a string arrangement to the duo’s glorious cover of Stevie Wonder’s oft-forgotten 1991 gem, “If She Breaks Your Heart.”

Hey I always have to deliver the goods.  If you are not familiar with these cats and love the sounds of Dwele, Bilal, Eric Roberson mixed with a little Coldplay…this is the album for you!  Definitely a great album to play on Sundays when you are cleaning…REAL SMOOTH!

If you are still not convinced, check out the video for The Foreign Exchange’s first single “Daykeeper” featuring Muhsinah:

With the weather beginning to change, I thought it would be fitting to start posting some of those hot, hot boots that have hit the scene this fall.  Being a new NYC transplant, I understand the importance of comfortableness without sacrificing your flyness.  So in today’s version of “The Boots are Coming, The Boots are Coming,” I will highlight some of the fabulous flat boots I’ve come across.

“In they SpitFire shirts and SB Dunks…” #1 November 7, 2008

Filed under: SB Dunks — kellinikole @ 4:44 am

Yo, a girl has got to have her dunks.  So you can expect a nice little section entitled **trumpets blaring** “In they SpitFire shirts and SB Dunks.”   This will be the first installment…

nikesb-beijing-1

Beijing based street-wear brand Triumvir has recently collaborated with Nike Skateboarding and Flystreatwear to create their very own Nike Sb Mid.  According to the owner of Triumvir, Brandon Cheng, the inspiration for the shoe came from,“a Beijing native’s perspective of their own city, with the slogan ’skate towards Tienanmen Square’”.  Along with probably being one of the most thoughtful and intricate SB Mids that we have in recent releases, this is also one of the cleanest SB Mids we have seen from Nike Skateboarding.

The shoe’s sole features a black bottom with the rest being gray and the accent of black stitching.  The upper is what seperates this SB Mid from every other Mid.  The back and strap area of the upper features a white, linear pattern that takes cues from  Chinese noodles and the shape Beijing Highway.  The toebox is styled with white leather that is supposed to immitate the surgical masks some citizens wear in Beijing in order to protect themselves from the hazardous pollution in the city.  The rest of the shoe is black with the only other detail being the yellow stiching on the swoosh, which matches the “SB’ on the strap.

Oooh La La, Boo La La, RUE LA LA! November 7, 2008

www.ruelala.com

So, as you know, or may not know…I recently relocated to New York City.  Yes, people…the fashion Capitol of the US of A.  Being the label-whoring, sale rack searching, good deal finding, sample-sale looking, bargain basement shopper I am; I get the luxury (even though I’m currently broke), to get a nice little headstart on a few things fashion-wise: Filene’s Basement, Century 21, Loehmann’s…you know…all that good-good ish.

But for my ladies (and gents) that do not get a chance to go to sample sales, or get that fly-fly ish for the low-low, I have a FANTASTIC website for you.  It is called RueLaLa!

Rue La La is a member’s only sample and private sale website.  Which means that if you are invited by a fellow member (let’s say, me), you get the luxury of shopping from some of the FINEST designers.  I’m talking Gucci, Ellen Tracy, Betsey Johnson, Cole Haan, Rock & Republic, Alice + Olivia and MORE!  And men, you have not been neglected, I have seen a few Kenneth Cole and Hickey Freeman sales pop up here and there. ;-) Not to mention, this site sells housewares and fine china too!  It’s a shopper’s FANTASY land!

How it Works:  So, approximately once or twice a week, Rue La La will send you an e-mail with their upcoming private boutique sales.  Sales only last between one and two days, so when that e-mail comes with your favorite designer, be sure to jump on them fast, as things sell out quick.  As a person who LOATHES gratuitous e-mails from sites, Rue La La is a gem because they NEVER flood your inbox…it may be the reason why I love them so much!  Another great deal is when you invite new members, you get a ten-dollar bonus the first time they make a purchase!  More shopping for you?  I think so!

So…for a limited time only, I will extend you an invite to one of the finest sites I’ve ever encountered.

Thank me later…

For an invite, e-mail me at kayjay.kuntaflyish@gmail.com.  You must include your name and e-mail address to receive an invite.

HAPPY SHOPPING!  Rue La La will DEFINITELY give you the “Ooh La La” moments you’ve been longing for! :-)
